Port Terminal Lighting & Electrical Installation
Installation of high-power LED lighting and stainless steel cable trays in a Natural Gas receiving terminal.
The Challenge
The Natural Gas receiving terminal (a critical security zone) required a substantial improvement in the lighting of its access catwalks and Mooring Dolphins.
The extreme saline environment demanded corrosion-resistant materials. Additionally, the existing circuit was insufficient for safe night operations and required a load capacity upgrade.
The VPM Solution
We executed a comprehensive lighting repowering and electromechanical assembly project under strict port safety standards.
1. Stainless Steel Infrastructure
To guarantee durability in the marine environment:
- Installation of stainless steel cable trays (3”x3” and 4”x4”) on the Dolphins for power and control wiring protection.
- Mounting of APPLETON T-type and L-type junction boxes (weatherproof certified).
- Fixture mounting on structural beams using hot-dip galvanized supports.
2. Circuit Repowering
The increased lighting load required electrical circuit re-engineering:
- Load Calculation: Total load increased from 148 Watts to 2,098 Watts on the RL8 circuit.
- Protection: Substitution of the original 10 Amp control breaker with a new 20 Amp one to support the new demand without tripping.
- Technology: Installation of 12 Type F (AR30) luminaires (325 Watts), improving visibility by 400%.
3. Results & Safety
- Operational Visibility: Optimal lighting on Mooring Dolphins for night docking maneuvers.
- Durability: Conduit system 100% resistant to marine corrosion.
- Compliance: Project delivered complying with industrial safety standards for fuel terminals.
